Course director
- Peter Ventevogel, MD, is a psychiatrist and a medical anthropologist. Since May 2008 he is Technical Advisor Mental Health for HealthNet TPO in the head office in Amsterdam. From 2002 tot 2008 he worked for HealthNet TPO in mental health projects in Afghanistan, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo and Southern Sudan. He is a regular consultant for the World Health Organization and the UNHCR. He is also the editor-in-chief of the journal Intervention published by the War Trauma Foundation and was course director of the course 'Culture, Psychology & Psychiatry' at the Amsterdam Masters of Medical Anthropology.
Tutors
- Marian Tankink, PhD, is a medical anthropologist and a former community psychiatric nurse. Her dissertation is based on anthropological research among refugee women in the Netherlands from Afghanistan, Bosnia, and South-Sudan about coping with sexual violence experienced as part of the conflict in their countries of origin or during their flight. Since July 2009 she is working as a Researcher and Technical Advisor for HealthNet TPO. At the Leiden University Medical Center she coordinated the course ‘Multicultural Medicine’ for medical students and participated in several other academic courses. At the University of Amsterdam she regularly gives guest lectures and supervises master students in medical anthropology.
- Ton Haans is psychologist and psychotherapist. He is supervisor for the Dutch Society of Group Dynamics and Group Psychotherapy and accredited supervisor of the German Supervision Association. He is also member of the scientific board of the War Trauma Foundation. He has published on subjects related to psychotrauma, work load in trauma teams, group treatments and intercultural supervision. He is editor of Intervention and peer reviewer of CMG and Torture. He regularly carries out training missions in cooperation with local and international NGO’s in post conflict and disaster areas.
Guest faculty
Similar to 2008 the guest faculty will consist of a wide range of experts in whom academic excellence is matched with practical field experience. The guest faculty includes guest lecturers from low income countries in Asia and Africa.
